All healthcare professionals working in the perioperative environment are exposed to surgical plume. This is one of the most overlooked hazards in the operating theatre. Inhalation of surgical plume caused by energy-based device emissions can adversely affect the respiratory systems of theatre staff, patients and visitors.
We want to better understand how hospitals are currently managing surgical plume and the symptoms practitioners have experienced. The results will help us to keep raising awareness and working on projects / resources to help minimise the risks.
The survey is open to everyone working in theatres – surgeons, anaesthetist, theatre nurses, ODPs, and the wider perioperative team.
