On 16th August 2024, something truly special happened at the Sandford Education Centre, Cheltenham General Hospital. The Third South West Regional Lap Pass Course brought together a wonderful group of 16 dedicated doctors—from FY1s to ST4 Registrars—each eager to take their laparoscopic skills to the next level.
What Made This Day So Memorable?
- Supportive Learning Environment: With 7 incredible faculty members guiding the way, participants enjoyed plenty of one-on-one time, ensuring that each person received the attention and feedback they needed to grow.
- Top-Notch Equipment: Thanks to the generosity of Karl Storz and Johnson & Johnson, we had access to the very best laparoscopic trainers and instruments. It was fantastic to see everyone get hands-on experience with tools that closely mimic the challenges of real surgery.
A Day of Learning and Growth:
- Morning Session: The day began with a focus on four essential laparoscopic skills—clasping and manipulation, cutting, extracorporeal knot tying, and laparoscopic suturing. Watching everyone practice with such determination and seeing their skills improve in real-time was incredibly rewarding.
- Afternoon Session: In the afternoon, participants were assessed on their ability to perform these tasks under time constraints. While the pressure was on, it was heartwarming to see how much progress had been made. Most were able to complete three out of four tasks, and everyone walked away with newfound confidence and skills.
Heartfelt Feedback: The feedback from our participants was touching. Many shared how well-organized the course was and how much they appreciated the personalised guidance. It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do—helping to nurture the next generation of surgeons and seeing them flourish.
A Huge Thank You: To the participants, faculty, and our generous sponsors—thank you for making this day so impactful. It’s not just about learning new skills; it’s about coming together as a community, supporting one another, and growing together.
Here’s to the future of surgery and the bright minds who will shape it! 💫🩺
