The Academy undergraduate/foundation team plays a pivotal role in developing links with medical schools and surgical societies to encourage surgically inclined non-doctors, medical students, and foundation doctors and to pursue a career in surgery.
We have previously successfully collaborated with Hull York Medical School, Anglia Ruskin University, University of Buckinghamshire, and Addenbrooke’s Hospital (University of Cambridge) in organising career talks and laparoscopic and basic surgical skills course. In addition, we have worked closely with RSM in organisation of their “Tomorrow’s Doctors” conference.
We are looking to further collaborate with medical schools in the UK and Ireland in order to organise basic surgical and laparoscopic skills courses or even a careers event. We also believe in the importance of mentorship in surgical training. We are open to receiving communication from students and junior doctors looking for coaching or opportunities to advance their surgical portfolio. As the undergraduate/foundation team, we can link these enthusiastic individuals to senior Academy members willing to provide guidance.
